Ramblings: There are far worse smells to be associated with than April Fresh Downy

Alex (as he's pulling on a freshly folded t-shirt) : "Why does this shirt smell like Grandma?"

Who does he think introduced me at a young age to my liquid fabric softener? (And then paid me like 10 cents an item to iron everyone's clothes for hours on end?)

It sounds like Alex stories could be put into a book that would sell itself.

The smell of Downy is better than the smell of old moth balls, I guess. And as far as paying you to iron, I plead the fifth.

I love the smell of Downy and it totally reminds me of my mom's house! Nostalgia is one of my favorite things about that smell...

I'll bet I would iron if some one paid me to do it. I'm one of those "Throw that back in with a damp hand towel and it'll be fine," kind of people. Jared's mom made a point of telling me, when we first got married, that she had taught all of her sons how to iron a shirt. I'll bet I could count on one hand the number of times I have ironed his shirt for him.

Is he just now noticing this?

How cute, and very observant. Your mom got you to iron for ten cents an item... hmmm I'm gonna have to remember that in a couple years. I HATE ironing. It bores me to tears.

Are you sure it wasn't twenty five cents an item? I mean...come on. I was no Kathy Lee Gifford, was I? Child labor issues and all?

ok. perhaps it was a quarter. I probably have brain damage from all the spray starch fumes. I did make some serious cash for a kid though...yeah, i did get juvenile arthritis and many, many third degree burns, but hey, i had cash.

You could have gotten paid $3.00/hour to HAND sweep our .5 mile driveway before your wedding reception?...

okay i LOVED the smell of my grandmas laundry. Here washer and dryer were out in her garage and it always smelled so nice out there, I loved being in there. I think thats a compliment.

Ever heard of a leaf blower? Why did they make you do it by hand? Sheesh. I guess as payback I will keep the boys from pooping on your floor today.

Why did they make me do it by hand?...You do know our dad, right?

Just for the record (I seem to be defending myself a lot lately), I wasn't the one that made you sweep the driveway. You know me. If you show the least bit of resistance, I volunteer to do it myself. Don't want any conflict, right? (O.K., it sounds more like playing the guilt card) Whatever works!!!!!
